Our History

The Sutherland District Trade Union Club (Tradies) became a registered club in 1960 and quickly grew into a neighbourhood centre where the community could gather, relax and enjoy themselves. From its humble origins, Tradies has continued to grow and develop to meet the needs of the community.

Beyond Wildest Dreams, written by local writer, editor and Tradies member John Mulcair, was published to mark the Club's 60th year. The Tradies story traverses six decades, telling of the battles with brewing monopolies, a critical letter about a 1911 coal mining strike, fights to expand, its years of help to the community, and it’s growth – including the threatened Caringbah RSL and Helensburgh Workers Clubs becoming part of Tradies.
